ABA Banking Journal Podcast

Jan 23, 2019

Bankers today require a broader understanding of technology issues, especially cybersecurity, while also needing deep grounding in core leadership principles, says former bank executive and current business school teacher Greg Smith on the latest episode of the ABA Banking Journal Podcast. “We need to make sure our team members, our employees, have the tools to do the right thing,” he says, adding that many cyber threats do not remain only at the enterprise level. “So much of our vulnerability is at that individual employee level.”

In this episode, Smith — who served as SVP and CFO at Marshall and Ilsley Bank in Milwaukee before its sale to BMO Harris in 2011 and who currently serves as curriculum director for the ABA Stonier Graduate School of Banking — highlights Stonier’s two-track curriculum that focuses on leadership taught by Wharton School faculty, plus the core banking knowledge base. He also talks about the powerful “network effect” of a strong graduate banking program and the ABA-Wharton CEO Leadership Lab, now in its third year. Applications for Stonier and registrations for the Leadership Lab are open now.
